Writing

There are people who can tell and write stories in great detail with great results. I'm not one of them. If I have to tell something, I use as few words as possible to get the point across. I'll never write a great novel. I'm more of a "Reader's Digest Condensed" person.

That's exactly the way journalists are trained to write...to tell a great story using as few words as possible. When I was advising the newspaper students at Texas Tech, our mantra was: Short words, short sentences, short paragraphs, short stories. In the old days, shorter was better because that meant there was more room for more stories in the paper. Nowadays, there's not a shortage of space on the Internet, but people have shorter attention spans, so short is still encouraged.
