A Christmas Story

On Sandi's first Christmas we were living in a duplex with her great-great aunts. Her great grandmother had a stroke a few weeks before & her uncle & 2 cousins were staying with the aunts while their mothers were at the hospital. As became a pattern for me, I went overboard on presents for her. She had lots of presents under the tree from us & more still to come from Santa. These 3 little boys (they were 6, 7, & 8) taught me a lesson that year.

They hadn't seen their parents in weeks, weren't at home in their usual routines, no presents under any trees for them & not sure if Santa would find them that year, but these 3 came bearing gifts for Sandi.

Each one of them had wrapped a few dimes, nickels & pennies in small bits of wrapping paper & wrote their names on the inside and gave them to her for Christmas. They were so proud!! Those 3 presents meant more to me than any of the other presents under the tree. I don't even remember what any of the other presents were.

Every year after that until they were grown, these 3 received a present from us and they always will have a special place in my heart because of their unselfishness that first Christmas.
