HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Today before all the stuffing (of my face), I want to give thanks to God for all the wonderful people He has touched my life with. Without them my life would not be as blessed as it is.
Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and I love you all very much!

Busy Weekend
Have been running round in circles. Friday, Mama, Daddy & I went to Ft. Worth to grandparents day. Really good program. Pager took us on a tour of his school & at the end we had a treasure - 100 Grand candy bars.
Yesterday, went to Wichita, mailed ebay packages, & got groceries. Cleaned house (threw all the junk in our walk in closet) because company's coming. Colorado crew arrived last night!!
Today, we're going to Mama's to see our kids & grandkids!! After that, we will pick up oldest granddaughter! I love Thanksgiving week!
Maybe lots of pictures later!

Jail
These are pictures of the old jail on the top floor of the courthouse. When a new jail was built several years ago, this left the upstairs empty. We use one of the cells for storage of our old court records. It is kind of spooky up there. Last week when the wind was blowing, I had to go up there and get a file. When I stepped off the elevator a loud thump, thump, thump greeted me. I had to convince myself it was just the wind...or was it???

More Courthouse Pictures
This is in the restroom of the break room (which used to be the sheriff's office). They would drop paper into this, which went to the boiler below it & helped to heat the courthouse. We still use the boiler (when they finally decide to light it), but this is no longer used.
Note the last line: Do not deposit waste of explosive nature. Even in the early 40's they had warning labels on things!

Birds and Cats
I have never seen any birds by these nests, but I bet they are big! I wish I had some binoculars so I could see if there might be something sitting in them.
I wouldn't make a good bird. I'm scared of flying, heights and I'm not that crazy about eating insects or raw animals.
In my next life, I want to come back as a pampered house cat. Lay around all day, sleep and eat. Oh wait, that's what I do on Sundays. Maybe I'm already in my next life!

Pecan Cobbler
If you like Pecan Pie, you will Love (with a capital L) this cobbler. It is wonderful!! I got the recipe from The Pecan Shed last year & made it for the Joy VFD Brisket dinner. Easy & heavenly!!
PECAN COBBLER
3 cups light corn syrup (I used 2 cups light & 1 cup regular pancake syrup, because I didn't have enough light syrup)
3 c. granulated sugar
1/3 cup melted butter or margarine
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
6 eggs
3 cups pecan pieces (I used pecan halves)
1 Pillsbury Just Unroll Pie Crust
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Mix together syrup, sugar, butter or margarine, vanilla, and eggs. Pour 1/3 of mixture into pan. Lay crust on top. Stir pecans into remaining mixture. Pour on top of crust. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until center is nearly set.

King of the Hill
Oh, no! Just read where "King of the Hill" has been cancelled. I guess my life has become too routine to be funny anymore. One night I was watching an episode where Peggy starts imagining all sorts of bad things happening to Bobby. Off the wall kind of things like he had tripped over a cord, fell on a knife & was lying there wrapped up in the cord, bleeding & couldn't get help. You know the kind of things only a bizarre person would think of. I had the words coming out of my mouth to say Peggy was crazy, when I stopped in mid-sentence & said, "Oh my! Peggy is ME!!"

Prell Shampoo
Grandma Kinney always used Prell shampoo to wash her hair. It was the prettiest emerald green color in a glass bottle like the one pictured above. I recently bought Prell because it was cheap, but I got the best reward. When I opened the bottle, there was that wonderful smell of Grandma Kinney. It made me cry, but in a good way. Maybe if I use it enough I will be almost as great a grandmother as she was. Can't happen - she was one of the best!

Beans
Our job for the Joy VFD dinners is cooking beans. Behm has the best beans around! They are just basic beans, no added extras, but they are good!
I have the job of sorting 40 pounds of beans. Soak them overnight, drain, rinse, & add to cooker. Behm browns bacon ends & pieces in the cooker first. Fill with water & cook for about 4 hours.
Yum, Yum!
I have definitely learned how to sort beans. When I first cooked beans, many years ago, I sorted 1 pound. There weren't enough beans to cook after sorting. Any that didn't look exactly like the others were throw aways. I called Mama & asked her what I was doing wrong. She explained the fine art of sorting beans. Sort the rocks out!!
Thanks, Mama!
