Cemeteries

I have always found cemeteries peaceful. Maybe I'm morbid, I don't know. I always feel as if the person's grave you are visiting is looking down & feels proud because you remembered them.

There are some amazing tombstones. The details on some of the older ones are truly beautiful. Most of these pictured are from the early 1900's. The people who made these were gifted people. No computers or pattern engravers to do this work, just their own hands.

This one is my favorite. I parked in the middle of the cemetery to walk around and take pictures. I hope if this is on mine, they have the hand pointing up & not down!

I just had to laugh at the last one. I hope vandals don't turn it upside-down!

My first thoughts were I wonder if the family debated as to which way the hand should be pointing.

My husband and I have always stopped at random cemeteries. One time, in East Texas, we were wandering through a cemetery and stopped to discuss the name on the tombstone...John Ashley Johnson...sounded right out of "Gone With the Wind." We were on our way to visit my father-in-law, and when we were talking with him later, we found out, John Ashley Johnson was one of my husband's ancestors...one he didn't have on the family tree yet.
